South Africa's second-biggest airport, Cape Town International Airport (CPT) is a particularly significant point of entry for the hordes of tourists who visit the popular Western Cape region each year. The airport in sited around 25 km / 15.5 miles to the east of central Cape Town and close to Cidade do Cabo, Kraaifontein and Stellenbosch.

Each year since 1994 the number of travellers utilising the airport has increased dramatically and is expected to continue to climb in years to come, with the expectation that by 2015, a whopping 14 million visitors will be moving through the airport each year. Cape Town International Airport has won several airport awards, including the Skytrax 'Best Airport in Africa' award and the World Travel 'Leading Airport in Africa' award.


Public transportation options to and from Cape Town Airport include official airport taxis (Touch Down Taxis) and shuttle bus services. However, Cape Town's public transportation system is fairly limited and can be dangerous at times, meaning therefore that the easiest means of getting around is by car. Several car hire agencies are based at the airport and provide rental vehicles from the immediate premises for ultimate convenience, allowing you to easily reach areas such as the Sea Point Promenade, the V&A Waterfront, Greenmarket Square and the Grand Parade. Travellers will find that various holiday insurance packages are readily available, suiting those flying into South Africa.
